WHO WE ARE AND ORGANISATION
Mitumba
takes its name from one of the many shantytowns that arise around the
capital of Kenya, Nairobi.
We try to help
people of this slum, by sending donations and informing potential
volunteers about life and activities possible in that reality.
In this place operates Kenyan Association, R.E.M., with whom we live together. We have also an American sister, Goya Association, also founded by a group of volunteers from affected to Mitumba. In the slum there is a school that currently receives about 160 children from 0 to 15 years. In this operating environment available teachers and educators to provide education, culture and work with these young people who otherwise live in the middle of a road.
The school is offering as an alternative to street life, a sad and widespread reality that unites children orphans in search of food and protection to children who, despite having a family, not seen guaranteed the basic needs due to lack of resources. The situation becomes even more alarming when one considers that many of these children have not yet 6 years!
Many
families do not consider important primary education for their
children, even though the school in Kenya should be free for the first 8
class. Many families do not send children to school because they
are unable to cope with the small daily school expenses such as
equipment and uniforms. Also, many households are made only by mothers with their babies and these girls often are given to survive into prostitution with the danger of infection of HIV / AIDS.
In short, we can summarize our main objectives:
1-care children and orphans because we HIV / AIDS
2- School education
3-Nutritional
programs
4-Development
programs for youth and families
5-Program sponsoring
Experience has shown that when these children and young people find a refuge welcoming them have many opportunities for a better future.
