PROJECTS
THE SCHOOL FIELD During school holidays (april-august-december) some of the children, thanks to donations, have the opportunity to participate in a training camp a few kilometers from Nairobi. An oasis happy immersed in the green where children can escape from poverty every day, where they are free to play on a hill at their disposal, a place where they can have a normal breakfast, lunch and dinner.
During the camp children are followed by teachers, volunteers and staff, who are to assist in the various moments of the day during meals, in moments of leisure, organizing games and moments of study. Our desire is that more and more children are able to participate in this field. (Click)
THE SCHOOL Thanks to the implementation of the school fail to provide two meals a day for every child, a basic health care, education and a place where they can pass covered part of the day. Many of them are orphans of both parents, while others come from families in the community, others are sick with HIV. Without the presence of their school life would be in the street, finding something to eat. Many of them have not even 6 years and can stay days without eating anything. Many children live with only mothers, which to survive very often give to prostitution with the danger of HIV infection.
In
Kenya the school is compulsory for the first 8 years, but many families
can not afford to pay the taxes or school supplies, books, notebooks,
uniforms, and children do not attend and very often they go to town with
their parents for try occasional work.
THE RECOVERY OF CHILDREN IN DANGER Another serious problem in these areas is the recruitment of children by drug to remedy the sense of hunger they have. Very used is the glue, the children sniffano because they are totally habit and therefore unable to feel any sense. Also many families unable to provide at least one meal a day with their children, their administering alcohol to make them sleep and not feel hunger.
This is where these children live and these people
ADOPTING A TEACHER Our aim is to guarantee a salary for teachers in our schools through donations of individuals. Currently all our teachers are volunteers Kenyans, but their stay does not go beyond 3 months since for them is a big problem having to work for long periods without perceiving a salary; This causes great inconvenience in the education of their children.
The average monthly salary for a teacher is about 10,000 kshs (125 €) and the School of Mitumba needs 5 teachers. Adopting a teacher makes sure an education to these children and the opportunity for teachers to have a dignified life.
THE
HOUSE The R.E.M is trying to buy a Kibiko, a hilly area at 20 km from Nairobi, a plot of land of 5 acres to build a reception center for children of this community. This project is opposed to the high cost of construction of the structure. The structure includes a dormitory for 100 children, 4 classrooms, a kitchen, a clinical education, housing for the staff and an administrative block.
The land that REM is trying to buy
Experience
has shown that when these children find a shelter that welcomes them and
someone who gives them the opportunity to change their future ... this
really happens.
